Vision
To produce a generation of Muslims who have a balanced and contextualised understanding of Islam: Muslims who are not only God conscious, but who also contribute in productive ways as citizens of British society, thereby leading purpose-driven lives in a way that promotes peace, harmony, tolerance, and justice.
Purpose
Wythenshawe Masjid’s Weekend School’s inaugural academic year aims to provide a basis of Islamic education for children aged 5 or 6. Our first classes will commence in September 2023 insha’Allah, and will follow the state school term calendar.
The Weekend School can only supplement the Islamic education you provide at home; of course, it cannot be a whole substitute, the culture of Islamic practice can only be developed by nurturing an Islamic environment at home.
Subjects and Curriculum
Children will learn how to recite the Qur’an with correct Tajweed along with some basic understanding. They are encouraged to memorise, but our main focus is to give children the tools they need to read the Qur’an independently, so that they are able to read in their own time and continue long after leaving the school insha’Allah.
In addition to this, we also include an Islamic Studies course which covers a new topic each week from the basic 5 pillars to the story of the Prophets, as well as contemporary issues. We use “Weekend Learning” books specifically imported from North America that are suited for a school such as ours and are recommended by Islamic educationalists. Regular homework is given too which children are expected to complete to maintain their level in the school.
Teaching Methodology
Our teachers adopt several teaching pedagogies to ensure the needs of each learner are met. There is a focus on activity-based learning to ensure greater student involvement and engagement. We are fortunate to have excellent teachers who are qualified, experienced and DBS checked.
Please note: If your child is accepted into our Weekend School, we have an induction for parents and a strict code of conduct around behaviour and attendance.
